As 2023 draws to an end it’s time to think about the creative process and the magic that happens when somebody writes and creates something unique with words. Why do we write and what is the value of stories, poems and scripts?
Where do the arts belong in contemporary society, what is the role of fiction and poetry in our communities and our daily lives?
Do people still gather to share and tell stories and poems?
If you would like to find out perhaps consider adding an anthology or two to your 2024 reading list, so that you can discover some of the emerging, established and new writers and poets that may startle and delight you, inspire and puzzle, disappoint, frustrate and annoy you, make you laugh, discuss, cry and smile.
Perhaps you used to write once, perhaps you can do even better that what you are reading. Perhaps you should pick up a pen . . .
To celebrate the end of 2023 and the year before and the years to come we have created a List of Winners of the published Minds Shine Bright writers.
The Long List and Short List for the second Confidence Writing Competition are being finalised and we will be in touch again with all Long Listed and Short Listed writers in early 2024 with an update.
The winners and commended entries of the Minds Shine Bright Confidence prizes will be announced at an Awards Night in February.
The Writing with Light and Shadow Workshop is being held in Inverloch in February and Storm writers Sarah Rasmussen and Gayle Beveridge will be joining us.
Thanks to the staff at Yarra Plenty Regional Library in Watsonia for hosting Writing Light and Shadow in November and the local writers group too for coming along. The Light and Shadow writing competition is open until 31 March 2024.
We are looking forward to reading more, writing more, and finding new inspiration in 2024 and we hope that you are too. Keep reading and keep writing. Happy New Year and keep those minds shining brightly.
